Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
